Large stems and peony-like flowers, overlaid with a secondary network of flowers and leaves, set against a background of curling small foliage and flowerheads decorates this luxurious 250 thread count, cotton sateen bedlinen. Originally designed by William Morris in 1884, the intricate Cray design is one of a series of patterns named after tributaries of the River Thames and other rivers; the River Cray is a chalk stream and a tributary of the River Darent in south-east London. The large repeat and complexity of the design required 34 different printing blocks to produce a single repeat, making it one of William Morris’s most expensive block-printed designs. Coloured in rich tones of forest green, cranberry red and terracotta pink, this statement pattern is framed beautifully with a forest green, 4cm oxford edging on the duvet cover and pillowcases and features William Morris’ Borage print on the reverse, in a co-ordinating cranberry red shade.
